Another medal for Spain: Mohamed Attaoui claimed bronze in the men’s 800 meters at the World Indoor Championships.

Following Mariano García’s gold in the 1,500 meters, it was time for the other middle-distance event, the 800. And Attaoui once again delivered a medal for Spanish athletics – this time, bronze.

If Saturday was great, Sunday, March 22, will be remembered as magnificent. Shortly after Mariano García made history with his second world title, Attaoui stepped onto the podium in third place for the 800.

The new sensation of the sport and the distance, American teenager Lutkenhaus, just 17 years old, took gold, while Belgium’s Crestan secured silver. Behind them came Attaoui, who clocked the second-best time of his career at 1:44.66.

He raced just as he likes, progressing from the back to reach fourth place at the bell. Over the final 200 meters, he picked up the pace, slipped through on the inside, and moved into third on the back straight. He couldn’t advance further, but he also didn’t fade under the effort, holding onto that precious third spot.

This is Attaoui’s second medal at a major international event, following his silver at last year’s European Outdoor Championships.
