Lazio coach Maurizio Sari has insisted his side deserves to lift the Coppa Italia trophy ahead of their final clash against Inter, urging his players to believe in their chances “to the point of madness” before the highly anticipated match at the Stadio Olimpico.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Sari said: “I am very proud of the season the team has delivered, because the players never gave up. This group deserves to win because of the journey they have been through.”
The Italian coach acknowledged that last weekend’s 3-0 Serie A defeat to Inter raised serious doubts. “After Saturday’s match, I had 8 or 9 uncertainties. We produced a very poor collective performance, so I cannot judge individual displays. We didn’t attack the game and played terribly,” he admitted.
Sari added that the coaching staff hopes the league loss was merely a temporary mental setback. “We have to hope that what we saw on Saturday was only a mental issue, and that tomorrow we will see a completely different team in terms of character and mentality,” he concluded.
